On Thursday night, Ohio State took its No. 4 ranking on the road for a Big Ten clash against the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
The Buckeyes entered the contest as heavy favorites and looked to be on their way to a dominant victory after an early touchdown. However, the Gophers battled back in and took a 14-10 lead at the half.
After trading touchdowns earlier in the third quarter, Ohio State took a 31-21 lead on a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Unfortunately, that was just the beginning of the bad news for Minnesota.
Right before the end of the third quarter, star running back Mohamed Ibrahim appeared to suffer a devastating injury. Ibrahim attempted to break away from a tackle and regain his balance.
After shedding the tackle, he turned upfield but immediately fell to the ground. Replay appears to show Ibrahim suffering some sort of lower leg injury.
Here’s video of the play.

While speculating on the video won’t do anyone any good, it’s difficult to see the video and not think an Achilles tear is likely.
Something in his lower leg appears to give and the muscles in the lower leg can be seen recoiling as a result.
Losing Ibrahim would be devastating for the Minnesota offense. He led the Big Ten in rushing last season and was off to a terrific start tonight. He racked up 162 yards and two touchdowns before the injury.
We’ll have the latest when it becomes available.
