Look: National Anthem At NFL London Game Goes Viral

October 10, 2021 by The Spun

Fireworks behind an American Flag at Fort McHenry in Baltimore.

Nothing sends chills up your spine right before an NFL game quite like the national anthem. But for today’s game at Tottenham Hotspur in London, there was a very special rendition for fans to enjoy.

Singer and actress Marisha Wallace was chosen to sing the Star-Spangled Banner. And she decided to make it a little bit daring: From the highest point in the entire stadium.

As the public address announcer made the announcement, the NFL cameras panned to the roof of the stadium, where Wallace was standing underneath the Tottenham Hotspur FC logo. She was standing in front of the security barricade, where she would have been at risk of falling.

But a closeup revealed that Wallace was being tethered to the edge of the platform. That didn’t make her performance any less incredible – or less harrowing.

Marisha Wallace herself tweeted afterwards that she was crying from how intense the situation was. That comment got her all sorts of praise:

I’m crying 😭😭😭 get tickets for my US TOUR now https://t.co/VWAsYoFWly pic.twitter.com/0cHih0JpbM

NFL fans were incredibly impressed by Wallace’s performance too.

“@marishawallace performed a fantastic, magnificent rendition of the #NationalAnthem for the United States of America before the #nfllondongames between New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons. Very wonderful! Whoo hoo!” one fan tweeted.

“From your newest American fan…. Absolutely fantastic. Whitney (Houston) is smiling and cheering for your,” wrote another.

“Absolutely nailed it…. fantastic and brave !” a third fan wrote.

The national anthem turned out to be a lot more interesting than the game. The Atlanta Falcons took a 17-0 lead against the New York Jets early, effectively ending the game in the first quarter.
