Look: Oklahoma Getting Praised For Classy Move

September 4, 2021 by The Spun

Four Oklahoma Sooners helmets lined up on the field before a football game.

Oklahoma’s 2021 college football season was supposed to take place in the city of New Orleans against the Tulane Green Wave. But after Hurricane Ida abruptly ended those plans, Oklahoma decided to make a classy gesture now ahead of the game.

On Friday, the Oklahoma Football Twitter account released images of Tulane Green Wave imagery being added to the field at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. The game was originally going to be a Tulane home game, so Oklahoma are giving it more of a home feel.

The tweet has quickly gone viral with thousands of Oklahoma, Tulane and general football fans praising the move. Their post has over 3,600 likes in less than an hour.

The New Orleans Saints (who are also unable to play in New Orleans to start their season) were one of many accounts that have replied to or retweeted the images. And the comments are just plain wholesome:

“With a daughter at OU and another at Tulane, I’m so proud of these 2 universities and programs!” one fan replied.

“I’m actually really cool with this. Awesome gesture,” another Oklahoma fan wrote.

A Georgia fan decided to chime in, writing “I will say this exactly one time in my life: Boomer Sooner.”

Tulane have been practicing at Legion Field this week ahead of the Oklahoma game. Hurricane Ida has cut power to large swaths on the New Orleans metro area. And that’s not to even mention the extensive damage it caused.

Oklahoma are expected to dominate this game regardless. But they’ve shown real class in making their unexpected visitors more welcome.
