On Sunday night, the United States Men’s Soccer Team faced off against Mexico in the Gold Cup Final.
The USMNT entered without a few of its star players, including star forward Christian Pulisic. However, the team fought to a tie after regular time and extra time was needed to determine a winner.
With a 117th-minute goal, Miles Robinson gave the United States the lead with just three minutes remaining in the contest. The USMNT denied a late charge from Mexico to win the Gold Cup by a final score of 1-0.
It’s a massive accomplishment for United States men’s soccer, which has struggled to remain relevant in recent years. However, one sports anchor suggested the win was much bigger than it actually is.
Sacramento reporter Del Rodgers said the United States actually won the World Cup – instead of the Gold Cup.
Check it out.
And we wonder why we can’t get an MLS team here in Sacramento 🤦🏻♂️ pic.twitter.com/lZxAFPfmpM

Oops!
While the United States would love to win the World Cup, the team might not be there just yet. The team will go through qualifying later this fall with the hopes of making it to the World Cup.
Perhaps Rodgers’ comments will be prophetic and the USMNT will win the World Cup in the near future.
