On Thursday afternoon, the Pittsburgh Steelers finally locked down star pass rusher T.J. Watt with a longterm contract.
After it looked like the deal might not get done before the 2021 season kicked off, Pittsburgh made Watt the highest-paid defensive player in the league. The Steelers offered him a four-year, $112 million deal.
The contract also includes $80 million guaranteed at signing. Just a few hours after inking the new deal, Watt received a message from his fiancee.
Dani Rhodes, who plays professional soccer in Iceland, posted a message for her fiance. Here’s what she had to say, via her Instagram.
“Hardest working person I know. There is no one more deserving. Congratulations babe. I’m so beyond proud of you. I love you and can’t wait to celebrate soon!”
The couple was engaged earlier this summer.
Watt spared no expense on the ring, either.
“We’re told the ring features a 2.5-carat flawless colorless triple EX graded diamond — which is very rare — and has 18k of white gold with 1.33 carats of VVS-flawless diamonds in the band,” TMZ reported. “All total, we’re told the ring is valued at $100K!!!”
Of course, he likely knew his major payday was coming sooner rather than later when he made the purchase.
Watt will have to earn every penny of that deal with a tough battle against the Buffalo Bills looming this weekend.
