The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Georgia defensive end Travon Walker with the No. 1 overall pick in tonight’s NFL Draft, completing a meteoric rise for the Thomaston, Ga. native.
Walker only had 28 total tackles and 3.5 career sacks entering the 2021 season. He produced 33 tackles and 6.5 sacks in a breakout season, and then continued to climb up draft boards during the process.
Now off to start his NFL career in Jacksonville, Walker had a message for Jags fans on Twitter tonight.
“I’m ready,” he wrote, adding in a “DUVAL” for good measure.
#DUUUVALL I’m ready.

If Jags fans are looking for a good omen, Walker is 2-1 playing games in Jacksonville. Georgia beat Florida in 2019 and 2021 in their annual rivalry game played at TIAA Bank Field, which is where Walker will be playing all of his home games moving forward.
The 6-foot-5, 275-pound pass rusher is the first non-QB No. 1 overall pick since Myles Garrett with the Cleveland Browns in 2017. He’s also the first Georgia player to be taken first overall since Matthew Stafford in 2009, and the third Bulldog ever to achieve the honor.
