Once the news broke that Texas is joining the SEC, Maryland’s football program used that moment as an opportunity to take a jab at the Longhorns.
Shortly after Chip Brown of 247Sports reported that Texas and Oklahoma are leaving the Big 12, the following message was posted by Maryland’s official Twitter account: “I guess Texas doesn’t want any of this smoke in the Big Ten.”
Maryland actually has bragging rights over Texas since it completed a two-year sweep from 2017-18. The Longhorns were supposed to easily defeat the Terrapins in this home-and-home series, but that obviously didn’t happen.
In 2017, Tyrell Pigrome and Ty Johnson led the Terrapins to a 51-41 win over the Longhorns. The second matchup wasn’t as much of a shootout, but Maryland did just enough to win 34-29.

Not only did Maryland tweet that Texas doesn’t “want any of this smoke in the Big Ten,” it posted a hilarious meme making fun of the school’s latest decision.
The Terrapins’ meme made it seem like Texas rather join the SEC than lose to Maryland in the Big Ten.

Some fans find this post from Maryland hypocritical since it left the ACC for the Big Ten. Others, however, think this is a well-executed joke.
Regardless of what people think, Maryland’s latest tweet appears to be doing very well. It already has over 12,000 likes and has been shared over 3,000 times.
