Over the past few years, the Miami turnover chain has become one of the most iconic inanimate objects in college sports. But ahead of tomorrow’s game against Alabama, it could be getting a makeover.
On Thursday, the Miami Hurricanes teased a new turnover chain. A 9-second clip of a briefcase obscured by orange light is shown on a table before being picked up and taken off the screen.
“New year, new chain,” the Canes Football Twitter account commented. The words “Coming Soon,” flashed on the screen at the end of the video.
Canes fans are definitely excited. The post has several thousand combined likes and shares since the teaser was released, and the comments show that fans are pumped:

“It needs to make 3 appearances on Saturday,” one fan declared.
“Hopefully it comes out a minimum twice Saturday because I think that’s what is going to need to happen if we have any shot to win this ballgame,” another fan replied.
One fan offered his hopes that the new chain somehow honors the late-great Howard Schnellenberger, the former Miami head coach who passed away in March.
“I hope it’s something to honor Schnellenberger somehow,” the fan wrote.
The Miami turnover chain is a gaudy mix of diamonds and Cuban links, weighing in at over six pounds. Whoever records a turnover on defense gets to wear it until the next one happens.
Against a team like Alabama, the Hurricanes will need to break it out a few times if they want to win.
