The 2021 NFL season is officially underway as the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers square off.
Tom Brady and company took the field to defend their Super Bowl title against Dak Prescott and the Cowboys. Both offenses struggled in the early portion of the first quarter, but the offensive lull came to a swift end.
Brady tossed three touchdown passes in the opening 30 minutes – one to Rob Gronkowski, Antonio Brown and Chris Godwin. Not to be outdone, Prescott answered with two touchdown passes of his own.
While the play on the field has been spectacular, the end of the first half brought a very questionable decision. Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy decided to attempt a 60-yard field goal with 21 seconds left on the clock.
Here was some of the reaction from around social media.
What the hell was Mike McCarthy thinking there?

Brad Sham on the Cowboys radio broadcast: “They’re not going to try a 60-yard FG here, are they?”
Narrator: “They did.”

The kick ended up being short and left, missing the mark completely. That gave Brady and the Buccaneers offense a chance from midfield.
Tampa Bay couldn’t get in field goal range, but fans were still unsure of what Mike McCathy was thinking with his decision to kick the field goal. To add to the confusion, Cowboys kicker Greg Zuerlein had already missed a field goal and an extra point.
Regardless, the Buccaneers failed to score before the end of the half. Tom Brady and company hold a 21-16 lead after 30 minutes of play.
