Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber holds the early title for “ejection of the year” in Major League Baseball.
Sunday night, the Phillies slugger was enraged when home plate umpire Angel Hernandez called him out on a pitch outside.
Schwarber was called out on strikes on a full count with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Phillies trailing, 1-0.
The call was a bad one and Schwarber was not happy.

It’s been a rough game for Hernandez, who is often the most-criticized umpire in baseball.
Kyle Schwarber is like everybody in Philly tonight. They have had enough of Angel Hernandez 😡

I really think this is the perfect ejection
1. Schwarber chucks the equipment with force/distance, but crucially in the direction away from the ump. No violence
2. Gets his money’s worth, but doesn’t stay comically long
3. Everyone agrees with his cause
4. Happened in a big spot— Céspedes Family BBQ (@CespedesBBQ) April 25, 2022

The Phillies ended up losing to the Brewers, 1-0, on Sunday evening. Philadelphia, which spent big money this offseason to beef up its roster, is now 6-10 on the season.
