Trev Alberts is the new athletic director for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, rejoining his alma mater. In one of his first acts on the job, he’s issuing a message to Husker Nation.
Taking to Twitter for the first time on his newly-created account (@TrevAlberts), Alberts quoted his former coach Tom Osborne in accepting the service the school wants him to provide. He said he was honored to begin working with Nebraska student-athletes and said he’s ready to start.
“As Coach Osborne once told me, a life of service will be far more rewarding & fulfilling in the end,” Alberts wrote. “Today, I couldn’t be more honored to begin serving our incredible Husker student-athletes, coaches and staff. It’s about us, Husker Nation. Let’s get to work. #GBR”
Alberts will start his tenure hoping that Nebraska football won’t suffer through a fifth-straight losing season. That’s a big ask for any AD of any level of experience, but Alberts has plenty of reason to be so dedicated.

Trev Alberts was a star defensive lineman for Nebraska from 1990 to 1993, winning numerous accolades and leaving as one of the all-time Nebraska greats. He wound up going No. 5 overall to the Indianapolis Colts in the 1994 NFL Draft and his No. 34 jersey was later retired.
After a short NFL career followed by a few years in broadcasting, Alberts joined the University of Nebraska-Omaha as athletic director in 2009. He oversaw the Mavericks win five conference titles and their basketball team’s transition from Division I to Division II.
The Huskers are a very different animal though. Alberts will need more than passion and a love for the team if he wants to succeed.
But he definitely has the right attitude to get started.
