The New York Jets are bolstering their defensive secondary. On Thursday, the AFC East franchise signed a veteran free-agent safety.
The Jets have reportedly signed veteran safety/linebacker hybrid Marcell Harris, reuniting him with head coach Robert Saleh.
Harris is a former sixth-round pick by the 49ers. He spent four years in San Francisco, totaling 155 tackles, one sack and one pick. He spent three of those years playing for Saleh’s defense.
The veteran defensive player is now reuniting with Saleh in the Big Apple. He’ll play a key role in the Jets defense this upcoming season.

“#Jets are signing S/LB Marcell Harris, source says. Former sixth-round pick of the #49ers reunites with Robert Saleh after 52 games (20 starts) with the Niners the last four years,” said NFL insider Mike Garafolo.
This isn’t the 49ers player Jets fans were hoping for, but they’ll take it. Harris should play a big role in the New York defense this season.
In the meantime, the Jets are reportedly in the mix for 49ers star wideout Deebo Samuel, who requested a trade from San Francisco.
If New York wants Samuel, it’ll probably have to part with one of its two first-round picks. It’s up to the Jets to figure out whether or not that’s worth it for them.
