The NFL world was stunned on Tuesday when the New England Patriots released Cam Newton. Not many people saw that move coming, as he was competing for the starting job in Foxborough with Mac Jones.
Fans have been listing potential landing spots for Newton for the past few days. Most analysts named the Dallas Cowboys as the ideal suitor for him. Unfortunately, they’ve signaled that they don’t plan to add the former MVP.
With the Cowboys no longer in the market for a quarterback, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport isn’t sure what’s next for Newton.
“Dallas was a spot that I think some prognosticators thought ‘Well, maybe they don’t have an established No. 2.’ OK, that would make some sense. If it’s not going to happen there, I’m looking around the league. Unless I’m missing something, I really don’t see a landing spot,” Rapoport said on NFL Now.

Additionally, Rapaport mentioned that Newton’s popularity may actually hurt him in this situation.
“Sometimes you don’t want a backup quarterback to overpower or over-star the starter. That may happen with Cam Newton,” Rapaport said. “This is a guy who a lot of the players in the locker room grew up worshipping.”
Rapoport finished his segment on NFL Network with a telling comment about the former MVP’s future, saying “I am not sure where Cam Newton gets a job, and I am not sure if Cam Newton gets a job.”
It would be really unfortunate if Newton’s career ends on this note, especially after all he has accomplished in the NFL.
