Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon’s status for Week 5 has been up in the air for the past few days due to an ankle injury that he suffered last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Speaking to the media this week, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor made it abundantly clear that he wasn’t ready to rule out Mixon for Sunday’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers.
“He’s in good spirits. We’ll give him an extra day to see where he’s at and then meet and make a decision,” Taylor said, via the Bengals’ official website. “We’ll see how he feels. He’s a big presence in what we do. We’ll give him some treatment and see what he does.”
Well, the latest update on Mixon’s status for this weekend is quite encouraging. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Bengals plan on using Mixon “in some capacity” against the Packers.
Mixon is officially listed as questionable, but it certainly sounds like he’ll give it a go tomorrow afternoon.

Through the first four games of the 2021 season, Mixon has 353 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
If Mixon is unable to play a large role this Sunday, the Bengals will need to increase the snap counts for veteran backup Samaje Perine and rookie Chris Evans.
Kickoff for the Bengals-Packers game is at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.
