NFL World Reacts To Ravens Crushing Injury News

September 10, 2021 by The Spun

Gus Edwards on the field at Ravens training camp.

The Baltimore Ravens suffered not one, but two major injuries at practice on Thursday afternoon, continuing a horrendous string of luck this preseason.

According to multiple reports, the Ravens cut Thursday’s workout short after All-Pro cornerback Marcus Peters and new starting running back Gus Edwards sustained significant knee injuries on back-to-plays. It’s believed that both players suffered torn ACL’s.

Simply put, the news is stunning, given what the team has already been through this summer. Edwards’ injury comes after starting running back J.K. Dobbins suffered a torn ACL in a preseason game and veteran ballcarrier Justice Hill tore his Achilles at practice. Headed into Week 1, the Ravens will be down their three top backfield options.

Although the injury report at cornerback isn’t as concerning in Baltimore, losing Peters will be a huge blow to John Harbaugh’s secondary. The three-time Pro Bowler has been a key defensive back for the Ravens for the past two seasons and was poised for another big year in 2021.

The NFL world could hardly believe that the Ravens lost more key starters ahead of their season opener and took to Twitter to express their disbelief at what happened.

Players were stunned by this. Consecutive plays. Potentially devastating injuries to two players for the #Ravens. https://t.co/Ne9rShPyBQ

Ravens RBs:

August 28: JK Dobbins tears ACL.
September 2: Justice Hill tears Achilles.
September 9: Gus Edwards tears ACL.

Unreal.

As a fan of Football in general, I feel bad for the Ravens

WHAT IS GOING ON !!!!!#RavensFlock

We are running out of words to describe how brutally unlucky the Ravens are this season, and Week 1 hasn’t even started yet https://t.co/7WB9gAzzIj

OH COME ON.

The Ravens are cursed this year. Just flat out, hopelessly, ruthlessly cursed. https://t.co/3T1abk5auz

There is no rhyme or reason as to why any of this happened.

It’s not the #Ravens fault. It’s not the players fault.

Don’t try to rationalize it. It’s just a string of horrible, horrible luck.

With the Ravens running back room severely depleted, Ty’Son Williams is poised to take the bulk of the first-team carries. Trenton Cannon remains the only other halfback on the active roster with veteran Le’Veon Bell still on the practice squad. Baltimore may have to adjust their gameplan significantly or pursue another free agent ballcarrier if the diagnosis is confirmed.

No matter what the injuries to Edwards or Peters ends up being, the Ravens will have to be deeply shaken after Thursday’s practice. This nearly unbelievable string of injuries is deeply concerning and reports indicated that the other players present were “stunned” with what happened.

Despite the unfortunate circumstances in Baltimore, the Ravens will need to find a way to be ready to play on Monday against the Las Vegas Raiders.
