Indianapolis has been the host city of the NFL Scouting Combine for the past 34 years. But, according to recent reports, the event could be on the move after next season.
In a message sent to each of the league’s 32 teams on Wednesday, the NFL said it would start accepting bids from teams who would like the combine take place in their city. The winning bid would win the right to host the five-day event starting in 2023 and through 2028, per the Indianapolis Business Journal.
Some fans are excited about the potential move, while others lament the fact that the combine could be leaving its historic home in Lucas Oil Stadium.

While the combine could be on the move, the city of Indianapolis has already expressed its desire to keep the event in town.
“As the event has grown, so has the city physically,” vice president of Visit Indy Chris Gahl said. “This is an event that we have proudly hosted and helped grow along the way, and one we want to viciously protect keeping in Indy beyond 2022. In working with the Colts and local Combine team, Indy will put in another competitive bid to keep this annual event safe and sound in our city.”
This year’s Scouting Combine was limited to just the medical evaluation portion due to league-imposed COVID-19 restrictions.
Next year’s event (maybe the final in Indianapolis) is set to return under normal operating procedures.
