It’s the start of the NFL regular season. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will host the Dallas Cowboys in the first game of the year on Thursday night.
Many college football coaches will often reach out to their former players ahead of their NFL debuts. Nick Saban and Alabama do this before every regular season.
However, Saban had a brutally honest admission on Wednesday. The Crimson Tide program essentially sends a mass text message to their dozens of NFL players.
It’s a pretty good problem for Saban to have.
“We text all 70 players and let them know our thoughts and prayers are with them and wish ‘em good luck… We have so many players in the NFL I can’t, I don’t really reach out individually,” Saban admitted on Wednesday.
When asked if he will reach out to Mac and Tua before Sunday.

Alabama will have a pretty notable former player matchup in Week 1.
Mac Jones and the Patriots will play Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins to open the regular season on Sunday afternoon.
Alabama leads the way with 53 active NFL players heading into Week 1. Ohio State, Georgia, LSU and Notre Dame round out the top five.
