The 2021 NFL season officially kicked off on Thursday night as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers squared off against the Dallas Cowboys.
Tampa Bay took the field to start its title defense after routing the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. Offense was at a premium during much of the first quarter, but Tom Brady and company broke through first.
He found wide receiver Chris Godwin with a short touchdown pass. Dak Prescott answered quickly with a touchdown pass to wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.
Rob Gronkowski got on the board a little later with a touchdown reception of his own. While there were some big-name players making notable plays in the first half, it was an official that stole the show.
An offensive lineman of the Buccaneers and defensive lineman of the Cowboys got into a scuffle early in the second quarter. The Cowboys defensive lineman punched Ryan Jensen in the helmet and was immediately flagged on the play.
Seconds later, cameras caught the official’s reaction to the play.

He knew he didn’t want to throw a flag on the play, but called Jensen for taunting after going after the Cowboys player following the scuffle.
It was the first taunting penalty of the season after the NFL said it would be placing an emphasis on the penalty.
Tampa Bay and Dallas are locked in a tight contest with the Buccaneers holding a 14-13 lead.
