On Thursday night, Ohio State took its No. 4 ranking on the road for a Big Ten clash against the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
After an early long touchdown run, it looked like Ohio State was poised to run away with the game. However, the Gophers fought back and ended up with a 14-10 lead at halftime.
The Buckeyes wasted no time opening up the second half with a long touchdown pass from quarterback C.J. Stroud to star wide receiver Chris Olave. After falling behind 17-14, the Gophers responded with a touchdown of their own.
This touchdown, however, didn’t come without some controversy. Gophers quarterback Tanner Morgan overshot his receiver and threw an interception.
The interception was wiped out, though, thanks to an interesting “roughing the passer” penalty against Ohio State.
Here’s the call.
This roughing the passer negated an Ohio State interception

Ohio State linebacker Dallas Gant clearly makes contact with Morgan’s helmet, which is usually an automatic penalty.
Those watching the game weren’t exactly thrilled with the call though. It was relatively light contact and didn’t cause Morgan to fall to the ground or even move backwards.
Man that’s a weak roughing the passer call. His hands were high because Morgan was throwing it.

Damn that’s a soft roughing the passer call!

Just a few plays later, Minnesota star running back Mohamed Ibrahim scored his second touchdown of the night.
The Big Ten’s leading rusher is off to a hot start to the 2021 season. So far tonight, he has 140 yards and two touchdowns.
Minnesota holds a 21-17 lead as a result of his hard work.
Can the Gophers hold on?
