Ohio State Lineman Reportedly Enters Transfer Portal

August 10, 2021 by The Spun

Ohio State linemen before the game against Wisconsin in Columbus.

Ohio State football lost an offensive lineman to the transfer portal on Monday, according to a report.

Buckeyes’ third-year guard Ryan Jacoby has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to Rivals. Jacoby hasn’t played a snap since joining Ohio State with the 2019 recruiting class.

“2019 3-star OL Ryan Jacoby has entered the transfer portal after redshirting during his true freshman season and not seeing the field in 2020 at Ohio State,” Rivals reported on Twitter.

Jacoby didn’t play a single snap during his time with the Buckeyes. He was fighting for a spot on Ohio State’s two-deep, but might have wound up a third-stringer this upcoming season. He’s looking for a new home, as a result.

This shouldn’t be too big a loss for Ryan Day and Ohio State football. It doesn’t sound like Ryan Jacoby was going to play much this upcoming season.

Ohio State’s first-team offensive line, meanwhile, should be one of the best in college football this upcoming season. The Buckeyes also have an elite receiver corps thanks to Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson. The real question is at quarterback.

We’ve heard great things about C.J. Stroud, who’s expected to win the starting gig, but he has some internal competition in Quinn Ewers, Kyle McCord and Jack Miller.

Ohio State will go as far as its quarterback takes it. Until we see Stroud – or whoever the Buckeyes’ starter is – take the field, the Buckeyes are the biggest mystery team in college football this year.
