Oregon Announces Crushing Injury News After Win At Ohio State

September 14, 2021 by The Spun

A general view of Oregon's football stadium.

Now No. 4 Oregon came away with an upset win over Ohio State last Saturday, but it came at a major cost.

The Ducks entered last Saturday’s marquee clash without the services of three of their defensive starters. Star edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux, five-star linebacker Justin Flowe and veteran linebacker Dru Mathis didn’t play versus the Buckeyes. Unfortunately, Oregon lost another player to injury during the game.

Veteran tight end Cam McCormick made a key catch for a first down in the first half of Saturday’s contest. He stayed on the ground and was in clear pain after getting tackled, though. He wound up exiting the game without putting weight on his leg.

Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal informed reporters on Monday that McCormick suffered a season-ending leg injury.

Ugh. Cam McCormick’s injury at Ohio State was a season-ending leg injury. Crushing. #GoDucks

Cam McCormick has dealt with unreal injury luck these past few years. Prior to Saturday, the last time he played in a football game was the Ducks’ first game of the 2018 season. No, we’re not kidding.

The big-bodied tight end went down with a season-ending injury when Oregon took on Bowling Green in Week 1 of the 2018 season. He hadn’t played since, that is until last Saturday. It’s absolutely awful how long he spent recovering only to go down with another season-ending injury in his first game back.

We wish McCormick all the best in his newest injury recovery.

As for the Ducks, they have plenty of depth at the tight end position. Oregon played a total of five tight ends – including McCormick – against Ohio State last Saturday. Each caught at least one pass.

No. 4 Oregon will host Stony Brook this Saturday before the Ducks begin conference play versus Arizona a week later.
