Joining the Green Bay Packers as a rookie in the secondary is no easy task, especially when you have to go up against Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams. 2021 first-round pick Eric Stokes found that out the hard way just a few days ago.
According to reports out of Packers camp, the rookie cornerback struggled during practice for a sequence as Rodgers and Adams continued to make plays on him. However, he apparently received some words of reassurance from Green Bay’s starting quarterback.
Stokes shared that Rodgers came up to him in between plays and told him that the time he spent guarding Adams would make him a better player in the future.
“He pretty much just told me that he’s going to keep making me better,” Stokes said after practice on Tuesday, per Ryan Wood.
A couple days ago, Aaron Rodgers had a moment with Eric Stokes on the practice field between team reps. Rodgers and Davante Adams had been making plays on him. What did Rodgers have to say? Stokes: “He pretty much just told me that he’s going to keep making me better.”

It’s hard to go up against a better quarterback-receiver combo than Rodgers and Adams, so Stokes certainly shouldn’t feel bad about his performance. Rodgers makes a great point as well: the rookie will surely get better as a result of competing against elite players.
Packers fans will be pleased to hear that the 2020 MVP has already re-established a strong relationship with the team’s top wideout. Rodgers and Adams connected 115 times for 18 touchdowns last season and will want to continue that run this upcoming fall.
Meanwhile, Stokes will have a major opportunity to compete for significant playing time with the Packers this year. He landed in Green Bay with the 29th overall pick in this year’s draft after an All-SEC year at Georgia, so the organization has high hopes for him early on in his career.
After spending the rest of the month going up against Rodgers and Adams, it might not be long until Stokes is ready to plug into the Packers secondary.
