Packers Reportedly Trying To Trade For Star Tight End

April 25, 2022 by The Spun

The Green Bay Packers appear determined to bolster their receiving corps with a veteran this offseason. To that end, they appear to be eyeing a trade for one of the NFL’s top tight ends.

According to Packers insider Aaron Nagler, the Packers are pursuing a trade for Las Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller. The 29-year-old tight end was hindered by injuries in 2021, but made the Pro Bowl the year before.

Waller was a sixth-round pick by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2015 NFL Draft. But it wasn’t until he joined the Raiders that he really started to emerge as an elite tight end.

Between 2019 and 2020, Waller had 197 receptions for 2,341 yards and 11 touchdowns. He had a catch rate of 75% and led the Raiders in receiving yards in both seasons.

The Green Bay Packers traded all-world wide receiver Davante Adams to the Raiders earlier this offseason.

They reportedly tried to bring someone from the Raiders over in the Adams trade, but NFL rules stopped them. Darren Waller might have been the one.

Maybe the Packers have abandoned their pursuit of Waller and will target a tight end in the draft instead. The trade with the Raiders certainly gave them enough draft ammunition to get any tight end they might want.

But it’s clear that the Packers aren’t done filling up their receiving corps. We’ll find out if any more trades help them fill it in the days – or hours – to come.
