It remains to be seen if Mac Jones has done enough to win the starting quarterback job in New England. One thing is clear, though: the rookie quarterback has the Bill Belichick press conference messaging down.
Sunday night, Jones was asked if he knew what his role was going to be this season.
The rookie quarterback handled the question like a seasoned veteran.
“Like I always say, I’m focused on today. I think there’s a lot of stuff I can clean up. I held the ball a little too long…I’m here to help in any way I can. I’m going to be ready whenever my time comes,” he told reporters.
Question: What is your expectation on what your role will be?

You have to like that if you’re a Patriots fan.
This wasn’t the first time Jones handled a question like that with poise, either.
Earlier this month, Jones was asked if he felt he was ready to start.
“That’s more of a future thing. Today, I’m just trying to learn the plays I messed up on at practice. That’s really my focus – fix those and move on to the next day. …” Jones said, via OMF on WEEI.
Belichick, meanwhile, admitted on Sunday night that he is not ready to announce a starting quarterback decision.
“No, we still have a lot of decisions to make,” the head coach said.
