Patriots Linebacker Reportedly Suffers Torn ACL, Out For 2021

New England Patriots linebacker Raekwon McMillan’s season has already come to an end. According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the former second-round pick recently suffered a torn ACL in practice.

This is the second time in McMillan’s career that he has suffered a torn ACL. It’s fair to assume this injury occurred before Friday’s practice since he was absent then. Multiple reporters in New England said McMillan was an early training camp standout prior to the injury.

McMillan began his NFL career with the Miami Dolphins, racking up 177 total tackles, eight tackles for loss and two forced fumbles in a two-year span.

The Dolphins traded McMillan to the Las Vegas Raiders before the start of the 2020 season. In his only year with the Raiders, he had 17 tackles, a forced fumble and a pass breakup.

McMillan signed a one-year deal with the Patriots this offseason with the hope that he’d potentially crack their rotation at linebacker. Those plans have just been canceled due to his latest injury.

#Patriots LB Raekwon McMillan suffered a torn ACL during a recent practice and is out for the season, per me and @TomPelissero. He was absent from yesterday’s practice. This is the second torn ACL for the former #Dolphins 2nd round pick, but this time on the other knee.

McMillan, 25, still has time to bounce back from this ACL injury and revitalize his career. This latest injury is still a devastating blow nonetheless.

The Patriots, meanwhile, will have to rely heavily on Dont’a Hightower, Ja’Whaun Bentley and Kyle Van Noy at linebacker this upcoming season.
