Pete Carroll Gives Update on Starting Left Tackle Duane Brown

August 9, 2021 by The Spun

A closeup of Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll.

As Seahawks starting left tackle Duane Brown heads into the final season of his three-year deal with Seattle, he reportedly “isn’t pleased” with his lack of a contract extension. Set to make $13.35 million this coming year, the four-time Pro-Bowl lineman is seeking a new deal with the Seahawks prior to the start of the 2021 season, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Brown has yet to participate in training camp as these negotiations lumber ahead.

The Seahawks kickoff their preseason schedule next week with a matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. Head coach Pete Carroll wouldn’t go in depth about Brown’s contract situation, but he did indicate that the former All-Pro tackle would not be participating in preseason action this year, per Seattle Times insider Bob Condotta.

Pete Carroll says he has no update on Duane Brown but says Brown will not play in the preseason. Says Brown is making a statement right now.

After nine and a half seasons as a starter for the Houston Texans, the former first-round pick was traded to Seattle midway through the 2017 season. Since then, Brown has started 53 games for Carroll’s squad.

Brown is easily the most seasoned vet on the Seattle front line. In his absence, sixth-round rookie Stone Forsythe is taking starting reps for the Seahawks during training camp practices.

Another one of Brown’s star teammates is currently going through the same process. With one year remaining on his deal, Pro-Bowl safety Jamal Adams is also holding out until he signs a contract extension with the franchise.

Brown’s contract situation reportedly won’t be addressed until a deal is worked out with Adams, per Condotta. Carroll said the negotiations between Adams and the organization are “amicable.’’

Until something gets done, Brown and Adams will continue to watch their team from the sidelines.
