One day, Roger Goodell will retire and leave the NFL commissioner’s office vacant. Could Peyton Manning be his successor? Believe it or not, there have been rumblings.
Manning caught the NFL world’s attention during his Hall of Fame speech earlier this year. That moment alone sparked a conversation surrounding Manning’s future.
Even NFL insider Adam Schefter floated around the possibility of the legend one day becoming the NFL commissioner.
Peyton Manning sounded like he can one day be the NFL Commissioner.

We’re not sure anyone would oppose Manning being the next commissioner. Unfortunately, the former NFL great isn’t up for the job.
He said during an interview on The Bill Simmons Podcast this week that he has “no interest whatsoever.”
“Fan of the game, ambassador of the game, that’s what I wanna be,” Manning said, as transcribed by Bleacher Report. “I don’t wanna be a critic. I wanna be a supporter of it, and I kind of wanna stay on the player side.”
Well, there you have it. Peyton Manning doesn’t have any interest in becoming the NFL’s commissioner. We don’t blame him. It’s a demanding job and the fans almost always hate you.
Manning does have the support on his side already, though. And his personality is a big reason why. We have a feeling he’d be spectacular in the role.
Roger Goodell, meanwhile, is on contract to be commissioner until March of 2024. But there’s growing support for him to stay on the job beyond his current contract.
