A severe leg injury limited Dak Prescott to just five games for the Dallas Cowboys in 2020. But will it affect how the NFL analytics website Pro Football Focus ranks him in 2021?
On Wednesday, PFF unveiled their ranking of the top 50 players for 2021. Dak Prescott made the cut, and was listed as the No. 50 player for the 2021 season.
“Prescott was in the midst of a career year before a nasty injury took him off the field after just five weeks of action,” PFF’s Sam Monson wrote. “In those five weeks (four full games and 22 dropbacks of Week 5), he passed for 1,856 yards and accounted for the same number of total touchdowns Daniel Jones recorded over the full season for the Giants.
“Prescott put up a PFF grade of 85.2, and he had the Dallas offense looking like one of the best in the game. If he returns healthy in 2021, he should be one of the best players in the game once more.”
It’s not a bad evaluation for a player who was injured as badly as Dak Prescott was.
The Cowboys doubled-down on their commitment to Prescott as their starter in the offseason. After over a year of contentious contract negotiations, Dallas gave him a four-year, $160 million contract with $126 million guaranteed.
Jerry Jones, the Dallas Cowboys and Cowboys Nation have every confidence that Prescott will only continue to climb the NFL ranks.
He may be PFF’s 50th-best player in the NFL right now, but if he continues to improve, he could be significantly higher on their list next year.
