The college football landscape is changing rapidly. To keep up, two Big 12 programs – Kansas and now Iowa State – have interest in the Big Ten.
In the event Oklahoma and Texas do, indeed, leave for the SEC, the idea is that the Big 12 would dissipate in a hurry. That’d leave the rest of the Power Five conferences – the ACC, Big Ten and Pac-12 – fighting for the scraps.
Kansas has already set up a call with the Big Ten to have preliminary talks about joining the conference, per Kansas insider Mike Vernon. The Jayhawks aren’t alone, either. Iowa State may also have interest.
The Cyclones would need some help, seeing that they’re not the powerhouse Kansas is (on the basketball side of things). But the Jayhawks could move the needle if they persuade the Big Ten to add ISU to the mix.
There is a sense that Iowa State is involved with the Big Ten as well.
KU has the head start here and would be trying to bring ISU along, if anything. https://t.co/0eWTGrjfeU

Would the Big Ten be interested in adding Kansas and Iowa State? It’s unclear at the moment. But the Jayhawks’ basketball success could be the major talking point.
Iowa State, meanwhile, is a program on the rise. The Cyclones had one of their best-ever football seasons last year. A lift to the Big Ten could be all ISU needs to take the next step.
The Big Ten may not be the only conference that jumps into the mix, either. The Pac-12 could also have interest in adding a few of the leftover Big 12 teams.
The ACC, meanwhile, has stayed relatively quiet throughout this entire process. Perhaps it has something in the works.
