The Big 12 is Big Mad right now as two of the conference’s most prominent members – Oklahoma and Texas – push for an exit. And it appears they’re taking out some of that anger at The Worldwide Leader in Sports.
According to Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports, the Big 12 has sent a “cease and desist” letter to ESPN. The letter calls for ESPN to cease “all actions that may harm the conference and its members and that it not communicate with the Big 12 Conference’s existing members or any NCAA conference regarding the Big 12 Conference’s members, possible conference realignment or potential financial incentive or outcomes related to possible conference realignment.”
Reports emerged last week that Oklahoma and Texas were working on leaving the Big 12 to join the SEC. At least half of that rumor was confirmed days later, when the two national powerhouses confirmed that they would not be renewing their licensing agreements with the conference.

The departure of Oklahoma and Texas could mean the end of the Big 12 Conference. Their remaining schools, while nationally prominent, will be left in major limbo.
The remaining schools are already reportedly reaching out to other prominent conferences about jumping the Big 12 ship to join. ESPN can’t be held responsible if Kansas, West Virginia and others decide to leave in the weeks to come.
The Big 12 is in all likelihood on its last legs.
Expect more actions like this to come in the near future.
