Ranked as the No. 1 wide receiver in the league by his peers, Green Bay Packers superstar Davante Adams is coming off an NFL-leading 18-touchdown performance in 2020. And over the past few months, he’s made it very clear that he wants to be paid as such.
Adams is entering the final season of his five-year deal with the Packers. With just a few more days before the team’s first game of the season, the two parties have yet to reach a longterm agreement to keep the All-Pro wideout in Green Bay.
In fact, earlier today, Adams said that there was “no chance” that he and the Packers’ front office reach an agreement before the start of the 2021 season.
Davante Adams on the chances of getting a contract extension done before the season opener, which has been a point where deals have gotten done in the past:
“No. No chance.”
Ok, then.

Green Bay insider Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has reportedly identified the snag in these contract negotiations. Like T.J. Watt’s current situation with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Packers are refusing to guarantee the years on Adams’ contract, only offering guarantees through signing bonuses.
According to Silverstein, the organization is “standing firm” on this.
#Packers WR Davante Adams, who said there’s no chance of him signing a deal before Sunday, is in the same stalemate the #Steelers‘ T.J. Watt is in, a source said. #Packers won’t guarantee years and only will guarantee through a signing bonus. They are standing firm on this.

Packers superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers has also reportedly reached contract snags with the Packers front office.
Earlier this offseason, Rodgers and Adams (good friends off the field) both posted cryptic messages on their Instagram stories — seemingly indicating that this coming year is their “Last Dance” in Green Bay.
The Packers will kickoff their regular season with a matchup against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon.
