Report: Change Might Be Coming To NFL Scouting Combine

June 23, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Ohio State RB Damien Harris runs the 40 at the NFL Combine.

The NFL Scouting Combine traditionally takes place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, but that could change as early as 2023.

According to Anthony Calhoun of WISH-TV, the league will open bidding to host the NFL Combine in future years. This means a new city could host the famous event once Indianapolis’ run is over.

Indianapolis has been hosting the Combine since 1987 and will continue to do so through 2022.

Though it’s possible the Combine could be heading elsewhere in 2023, Calhoun reports that Indianapolis plans on making a bid to keep the event.

So where could the NFL Combine head to next? Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk believes Las Vegas would be a no-brainer location for the event.

“The rise of gambling makes many aspects of the Scouting Combine conducive to wagering, with the 40-yard dash becoming the most obvious basis for bets based on how fast a guy runs, either against the clock or in comparison to others,” Florio wrote, via ProFootballTalk. “What better place to showcase the gambling connection than in the gambling capital of the world?”

Los Angeles would also be a premier destination for the NFL Combine, especially since SoFi Stadium just opened a year ago.

Which city would you like to see host the NFL Combine?
