Throughout the 2021 offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles were heavily in the mix as a potential trade partner for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. And according to recent reports, a Watson-to-Philly transaction is currently still very much in the picture.
During a recent conversation on Pro Football Talk Live, insider Mike Florio and former NFL QB Chris Simms discussed the possibility of the Eagles acquiring Watson.
According to Simms, Philadelphia owner Jeffrey Lurie has given the “green light” to GM Howie Roseman to pursue a trade if the deal is right. He also indicated that the team is “not sold” on their current quarterback Jalen Hurts.
“From everything I know, [Lurie] has given them the green light as far as Howie Roseman and company to make that deal if it’s right. So, yes, you have to worry a little — and here’s just one other inkling. Another inkling told me they’re not sold on Jalen Hurts,” Simms said.
Earlier this offseason, any trade possibilities for Watson were made extremely difficult by incredibly-steep asking prices from the Texans front office. But on Wednesday, NFL insider Jay Glazer reported that the Houston organization has “softened” its price tag on the Pro-Bowl QB.
ICYMI! On Sunday I shared that the Texans stance on trading Deshaun Watson has softened where they weren’t even returning calls from teams in camp. That has changed. As for teams, to me Miami makes the most sense and probably has the best chance to pull it off IF a deal gets done pic.twitter.com/QTljSUpNRi

With a no-trade clause on his current contract with the Texans, Watson has his pick of where he wants to land in a trade deal. And according to reports from Houston insider Aaron Wilson last month, Philadelphia was not one of the locations he would waive his no-trade clause for.
That being said, if the Eagles are the only team who come knocking, Deshaun Watson may be forced to reconsider those preferences.
