The San Francisco 49ers‘ relationship with Deebo Samuel may have reached its breaking point. On Wednesday, the All-Pro wide receiver told ESPN’s Jeff Darlington that he has asked for a trade.
Samuel, a former second-round pick, is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Of course, he would like to be compensated as a wide receiver, not a running back.
So, how much are the 49ers willing to offer Samuel to keep him in the Bay Area? According to Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network, the 49ers have an offer on the table that would pay Samuel nearly $19 million per season.
“Multiple league sources tell me the Niners put a baseline contract offer on the table for Samuel, which averages just under $19 million per year,” Pauline reported for Pro Football Network.
Apparently, Samuel is seeking a contract that has an average salary of $25 million.

The market for wide receivers has increased dramatically this offseason. Davante Adams, Stefon Diggs and Tyreek Hill all received new deals that average over $25 million per season.
If the 49ers want to make things right with Samuel and keep him happy, they’ll probably have to improve their offer. Even if that happens, he might still want out.
At this time, Samuel hasn’t really provided clarity as to why he wants the 49ers to trade him.
