The race is on within the NBA to acquire veteran star point guard Kyle Lowry. A new potential contender from the Western Conference has emerged.
NBA insider Marc Stein is reporting there is “rising buzz” for the New Orleans Pelicans to pursue Lowry, who will become a free agent this offseason. The Pelicans would like to find a veteran play-maker to play alongside rising star Zion Williamson.
Lonzo Ball manned the point guard position for New Orleans last season. He will become a restricted free agent later this summer, and the Pelicans reportedly aren’t looking to match potential offers Ball will receive.
In the event Ball moves elsewhere, the Pelicans could be in the market to land Lowry. He’d be a nice compliment to what New Orleans is trying to build.
There is rising buzz New Orleans plans to enter the race for free agent-to-be Kyle Lowry, league sources say.
There will be several Lowry suitors but it’s clear why the Pels, desperate to help Zion Williamson reach the playoffs, would want in.

There are concerns about Kyle Lowry’s age, seeing that he’s 35. But he certainly didn’t play like a 35-year-old last season.
The Raptors guard scored 17.2 points per game to go along with 7.3 assists and 5.4 rebounds. He was efficient from the court, shooting 43.6 percent overall and 39.6 percent from three-point range.
If the Pelicans do enter the Lowry sweepstakes, they won’t be alone. Several contenders will try and pursue the veteran guard.
Considering Lowry is entering the final stage of his career, it’ll be interesting to see whether he values winning or pay. Perhaps one team will give him both.
