June 22, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

The Texas Longhorns football team running onto the field.

Before he could even suit up for a game for the Longhorns, Texas incoming freshman wide receiver Keithron Lee has been suspended.

Lee was arrested in Bryan, Texas over the weekend on charges of assault of a family member. He was later released on $5,000 bond.

A three-star recruit out of Bryan (Tex.) Rudder High School, Lee joined the Longhorns earlier this summer. On Tuesday afternoon, Texas announced Lee has been suspended from team activities.

“We’re aware of the situation with Keithron Lee. We have talked with his family and he has been suspended from all team activities at this time as we continue to monitor the legal process,” Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said in a statement.

Lee originally committed to Texas under former head coach Tom Herman on Christmas Day 2020, but Sarkisian kept him in the fold and he signed with the Longhorns in February. The 5-foot-10, 175-pounder chose UT from over two dozen scholarship offers.

In his senior season at Rudder, Lee caught 65 passes for 1,139 yards and 16 touchdowns while adding 554 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 65 carries.
