Theo Epstein helped both the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs break their respective “curses” and win the World Series. Perhaps he could do the same with the New York Mets.
The Mets are five games back in the race for the NL East standings and 5.5 games back of the wild card. With one month of the regular season left, time is running out for the Mets to make a run and reach the postseason.
Regardless of how the season ends for the Mets, there are already rumblings of another front-office change. This time, Epstein is at the center of the discussion. Why? He took over two historic baseball franchise, the Red Sox and Cubs, and took them to glory. Mets fans think he could do the same in the Big Apple.
Epstein is currently working as a consultant to the MLB’s league office. If the Mets want him, they could probably get him. According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, though, the Mets have yet to make contact.
“Have heard Theo Epstein is enjoying his jobs now (works for MLB and a private equity concern) and he hasn’t been contacted by the Mets to this point, but friends suggest he’d likely be willing to listen to overtures,” Heyman reported via Twitter.

The Mets could, of course, turn things around and make the postseason. If they did, the Theo Epstein rumblings would probably die down.
If the Mets fail to reach the postseason, though, they’re in trouble. Fans will go bonkers, too.
Could the Mets and Epstein strike some sort of deal in the near future? As of Thursday afternoon, discussions have not taken place.
