Robert Griffin III Reacts To The Eric Bieniemy, USC Speculation

September 15, 2021 by The Spun

On Tuesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter dropped an interesting nugget suggesting Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy could be a candidate for the USC job.

Bieniemy has been in the conversation for head coaching jobs, primarily in the NFL, for several years now. It’s only a matter of time before he becomes a head coach. Will the Trojans pull the trigger?

Schefter’s report said USC would be one of the only jobs in college football Bieniemy would potentially be interested in. And he’s from Southern California.

It makes plenty of sense.

“League sources believe Chiefs’ OC Eric Bieniemy will emerge as a head-coaching candidate for USC,” Schefter said on Twitter. “Bieniemy is from Southern California and has told confidantes in the past, that USC is one of the only college jobs that might interest him.”

Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III thinks Bieniemy deserves to be considered for the USC job.

At the same time, Bieniemy should be an NFL head coach by now, according to Griffin.

Eric Bieniemy should be the top candidate for USC’s head coaching vacancy but he has EARNED the opportunity to be an NFL Head Coach

Some would argue USC is a better job than most gigs in the NFL. It’s not true.

Sure, the Trojans have plenty to offer, but it’s not the same job it once was. USC has plenty of competition in the Pac-12 right now, particularly from programs like Oregon and UCLA. Not to mention, the Coliseum is outdated and is rarely, if ever, packed with fans.

If the Chiefs have another strong year, he should be the top candidate for coaching vacancies by the end of the year.

USC would probably be a step down for one of the NFL’s top coordinators.
