Robert Griffin III Reports JT Daniels Might Not Play This Weekend

September 11, 2021 by The Spun

JT Daniels drops back to pass.

When the Georgia Bulldogs take the field this weekend against the UAB Blazers, they might just be without starting quarterback JT Daniels.

During an appearance on The Paul Finebaum Show this Friday, ESPN’s Robert Griffin III said Daniels might not play this Saturday because he’s dealing with an oblique injury. Griffin will be in Athens this weekend to call the UAB-Georgia game.

“They’re not sure if he’s going to go,” Griffin said when talking about Daniels’ status. “There’s a chance Carson Beck is the starter.”

If Daniels is unable to go, redshirt freshman Carson Beck would get the start. He was a four-star recruit out of Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, Florida.

Robert Griffin III, who is calling the UAB-Georgia game, confirms to @finebaum that Georgia’s JT Daniels is suffering from an oblique injury. “They’re not sure if he’s going to go. There’s a chance Carson Beck is the starter.”

Georgia’s passing attack would most likely take a huge hit without Daniels under center. Though he struggled against Clemson last weekend, Daniels is easily Kirby Smart’s best option at quarterback right now.

In four games during the 2020 season, Daniels had 1,231 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions.

The good news for Georgia is that its opponent for this weekend isn’t that intimidating. The Bulldogs should be able to take care of business against the Blazers regardless of who’s at quarterback.

We’ll find out Daniels’ status for Week 2 in the very near future, as kickoff for the UAB-Georgia game is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
