After investigating an incident where a Colorado Rockies fan allegedly used a horrible racial slur, the MLB team has reportedly released its findings.
According to Steve Staeger of KUSA-TV, the Rockies have determined that rather than yelling a racial slur in the direction of a player, the fan was actually trying to get the attention of Dinger, the team mascot.
Per the report, the Rockies fan spoke to the team and told them that was the intention. The team also reviewed footage of the incident from a local broadcast.
MLB insider Ken Rosenthal tweeted that he received confirmation of Staeger’s report. He said that he spoke to a Rockies sourced who said the information was accurate.

The Colorado Rockies were quick to condemn the fan for his alleged use of a slur in last night’s game against the Miami Marlins. Initially, the team announced that the fan would be banned from their stadium upon learning their identity.
But as the investigation went on it started to become clear that there was no ill intentions behind what the fan said.
Video shows the fan looking in the direction of the mascot rather than the player who was up at bat.
All of that said, there’s a chance the Rockies might have their mascot change his name in the near future. The team might prefer avoiding any such confusion in the future.
