Russell Wilson Cleared The Air With Seahawks Teammate

September 9, 2021 by The Spun

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson on Sunday against Buffalo.

In the early portion of the NFL offseason, Russell Wilson expressed some disappointment with the Seattle Seahawks in how he’s been getting protected. This led to a flurry of rumors and reports that Wilson might force his way off the team via a trade.

But this week Wilson apparently cleared the air with one of his teammates. Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Seahawks offensive tackle Duane Brown revealed that he and Wilson have cleared the air between them.

Brown explained that Wilson went to bat for him in an effort to get his big contract extension. He said that he had spoken to Wilson about his controversial comments prior to that, and that their discussions were productive.

“It meant a lot. Russ is my guy,” Brown said, via ProFootballTalk. “It meant a lot to me. He didn’t have to do that. His legacy here is set in stone. It just goes to show how much he appreciates the work I put in. I love the guy. That’s another reason I said I never wanted to miss any games, because I wanted to be out there for him as well.”

Duane Brown explained that he and Russell Wilson have never had any bad blood between them. He explained that he and the rest of the Seahawks offensive line work hard to keep Wilson upright, so their pride was a little hurt by his comments.

“There’s never been any beef or bad blood between me and him,” Brown said. “He stood on the table for me before I got here. It’s all good.”

Brown has started 53 games for the Seahawks since joining them via a trade in 2017.

After Wilson’s career year, the Seahawks made sure to reward him for his hard work – albeit after a holdout.
