Lacrosse

Saturday saw another dominant effort from Arizona State lacrosse (2-0). Led by goaltender Berkeley Bonneau’s stout effort in net, the Sun Devils cruised to a 22-6 win over Fresno State (1-3).

Bonneau saved more shots (five) than she allowed goals (three) against the Bulldogs. Only two scores got past her in the first half and she didn’t surrender a goal until her offense had already built up a 10-point lead.

That attack once again was a team effort. Emily Glagolev, Maria Villanti, Katie Brodsky and Kaylon Buckner all scored three goals apiece. An additional eight Sun Devils also scored that included Kerri Clayton getting her first two of the season.

ASU take its first road trip of the season on Mar. 7 when they travel to Denver.

Water Polo

Fourth-ranked Arizona State (5-3) held tight in its rematch with USC (3-0) but fell 6-5 on Saturday.

After the Trojans raced out a 5-2 lead into halftime. An impressive defensive showing in the second half gave the Sun Devils a shot in the end. The teams traded goals to open the third period. Then Arizona State’s Bente Rogge scored twice the game’s final 84 seconds to pull the Sun Devils within one. However, the Arizona couldn’t find that tying score.

The Sun Devils look to pull out a win on Sunday in their tough weekend with another contest against No. 6 Michigan.

Men’s Tennis

No. 21 Arizona State (8-1) dropped the doubles point but rallied for a 4-2 win over New Mexico (2-3). Nathan Ponwith, Christian Lerby and Makey Rakotomalala swept their singles matches. George Stoupe also secured the victory, winning two straight sets after dropping the first.

The Sun Devils will attempt to extend their win streak to eight on Sunday against Washington.

Women’s Tennis

No. 25 Arizona State women’s tennis (6-2) bounced back after they swept Wichita State (3-8) 4-0. The doubles point came down to a Sammi Hampton/Marianna Argyrokastriti’s 7-6 victory to start the day.

ASU rolled after that. Argyrokastriti, lze Hattingh and Cali Jankowski all swept their matches to grab the team victory. Those three combined to win their matches 36-2.

Arizona State continues action in Houston against Rice on Sunday.
