Scott Frost Has Brutally Honest Reaction To Season-Opening Loss

August 29, 2021 by The Spun

Scott Frost ahead of his team's game against Purdue.

Just a few hours ago, Nebraska athletic director Trev Alberts told ESPN’s Gene Wojciechowski that Scott Frost isn’t “coaching for his job” this season.

And yet, just a few hours later, Alberts might want to reconsider what he said early today. Nebraska allowed the first points of the day on a brutal safety taken during a special team play.

After that, though, the team bounced back with the next nine points to take a 9-2 lead. Unfortunately, the Huskers offense stalled and the Fighting Illini rattled off 28-straight points.

The Huskers actually fought back valiantly, adding two late touchdowns and appearing to be close to a comeback. However, that comeback bid fell just short as Nebraska opened the season with a 30-22 loss.

Following the game, Frost spoke with reporters about his team’s performance. Unfortunately, what he had to say was all too familiar to fans watching Nebraska games recently.

“It looked like the same movie,” he said via ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg.

The problem is he’s not wrong. Since he took over the program, the Huskers have struggled with mental mistakes and poor special teams plays.

Add in the fact that Adrian Martinez hasn’t been able to progress and it’s a recipe for disaster for the Nebraska football program.

Frost falls to 12-21 over his first three seasons – and a game – as the head coach at Nebraska with the loss.
