Scott Frost Reacts To McKenzie Milton’s Return On Sunday Night

September 7, 2021 by The Spun

Nebraska Huskers head coach Scott Frost on the field.

On Sunday night, former UCF superstar McKenzie Milton took the college football world by storm. His former head coach, Scott Frost, couldn’t have been prouder.

Milton got a late-game opportunity to lead the Seminoles offense and he made the most of it. He completed five of his seven pass attempts for 48 yards and picked up six yards rushing. No, the stats don’t pop off the page. But the numbers don’t tell the full story.

Milton was supposed to never play football again after going down with an extremely gruesome injury during his UCF days. The fact he’s even playing football at this point is rather remarkable. Throw in the fact he actually played really well Sunday night and you got yourself a miraculous story.

Frost knows Milton well. He coached him at UCF when the Knights took the college football world by storm. The now Nebraska head coach had nothing but good things to say about his former quarterback on Monday afternoon.

“He’s family to me,” Frost said in regards to Milton. “He went through something hard. I’m glad to see him having success. He deserves it.”

Nebraska coach Scott Frost, who recruited McKenzie Milton to UCF and aided his early growth, said he was proud to hear of the QB’s return last night for Florida State. “He’s family to me. He went through something hard. I’m glad to see him having success. He deserves it.”

UCF’s 2017 season is still one of the more memorable in recent college football history. The Knights went undefeated and beat Auburn in the Peach Bowl that year. McKenzie Milton had 4,037 passing yards and 37 scores with nine interceptions. He also added 613 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.

That was the same year Scott Frost emerged as the top coaching candidate for plenty of major programs. He wound up at Nebraska, of course. Unfortunately, positive results haven’t following.

The Huskers have yet to go bowling with Frost at the helm. Milton, meanwhile, is still vying for the starting gig at Florida State.
