With less than a month to go before the start of the 2021 season, Scott Frost is preparing his Nebraska team for its preseason camp. The Cornhuskers have lofty expectations to improve mightily this upcoming year in order to impress a frustrated fanbase and perhaps save their head coach’s job.
One area in particular where Nebraska is looking to take a major leap forward is in the passing game. Adrian Martinez will be back under center at quarterback for another year, but will need some help on the outside if he hopes to boost the Huskers offense through the air.
The Cornhuskers averaged just 190.1 passing yards per game in 2020, which ranked 11th in the Big Ten conference. Obviously last year was unique for a variety of reasons, but for the last few campaigns Nebraska has struggled to pump the ball down the field. Some of that blame lies with Martinez and some with Frost, but the program’s receivers have also struggled to be consistent contributors.
Headed into August, the view on the program’s receiver room in 2021 seems to be widely optimistic. On Thursday afternoon, Frost went out of his way to make a bold claim about the group.
“It’s the most depth and talent we’ve had since I’ve been at Nebraska,” Frost said of the Nebraska receivers, per Saturday Tradition.

Martinez also expressed how impressed he’s been with his offensive weapons so far this offseason. All in all, the important figures around the Huskers clearly believe that the team’s pass-catchers are in for a big year.
Nebraska lost top 2020 receiver Wan’Dale Robinson to a transfer earlier this spring but still has plenty of options to work into the offense. Zavier Betts, Omar Manning, Oliver Martin, Alante Brown and Samori Toure will highlight the group of receivers set to line-up on the outside for Martinez in Lincoln.
The Huskers will get a closer look at the group of pass-catcher when they begin fall camp on Friday.
