Sean Payton Has Troubling Admission On Michael Thomas Surgery

July 29, 2021 by The Spun

The New Orleans Saints thought Michael Thomas would undergo surgery on his ankle shortly after the 2020 season came to an end. Thomas, however, waited until June to go under the knife.

Thomas needed to repair the ligaments in his ankle, which is why he needed the procedure in the first place. This injury stems from a collision with Latavius Murray that occurred in Week 1 of last season.

Since the All-Pro wide receiver didn’t undergo surgery until June, he’s expected to miss at least the first month of the 2021 season.

To make matters worse, it was reported that Thomas never underwent a second evaluation on his ankle. That must not have sat well with Saints head coach Sean Payton, who was asked about his star wideout on Wednesday.

Payton was brutally honest during this Wednesday’s press conference, telling reporters that Thomas’ surgery should have happened sooner than it did. He didn’t seem eager to elaborate on why he was upset with how this situation played out though, as he said “I’m going to leave it at that.”

Thomas has been placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list to start training camp. Fans will have to wait until at least October to see him in action.

When healthy, Thomas is one the best players in the NFL. In 2019, he had 149 receptions for 1,725 yards and nine touchdowns.

Judging by Payton’s recent comments, Thomas will have to get back on his good side when he returns to the gridiron later this year.
