Hopeful ace of the program
Mac Morgan hasn’t thrown a pitch in a Sun Devil uniform yet, but she can mean a lot for the future of Arizona State softball. Morgan ranks inside both of Extra Inning Softball and Softball America’s top six overall rankings of the 2021 class.
The hard throwing righty from the midwest sees her velocity in the high 60s to low 70s, generally keeping the ball down. Coach Trisha Ford hasn’t had that ace that is necessary to compete for a national championship since the departure of Giselle “G” Juarez, there are some lofty expectations for the former Gatorade Missouri Softball Player of the Year.
Morgan had a 0.12 ERA to help Sherwood High School win a Class 2 state championship, but also had a .590 average, 14 home runs and 57 RBI at the plate. Arizona State hasn’t really had a two-way player presence in recent years but that might change with Morgan and Arizona transfer Marissa Schuld.
Nevertheless, Morgan should make an impact in the circle as a freshman. She’ll join Schuld, Allison Royalty and Lindsay Lopez as a young and talented pitching staff.
