Melvin Ingram is Pittsburgh-bound after nine seasons with the Chargers, Ian Rapoport tweeted Monday. Ingram will join the Steelers on a one-year deal.
Ingram made the Pro Bowl in the Chargers’ first three years in Los Angeles (2017-2019). The 32 year-old edge rusher has 49 career sacks to his name, but he’s coming off his first sack-less season. Nagging knee injuries limited Ingram to seven games in 2020.

A former consensus All-American at South Carolina, Ingram’s prime is behind him. Four years removed from his $66 million mega-extension with the Chargers, Ingram is looking to show that he can still be a key cog in a disruptive front seven.
While Ingram has plenty to prove in Pittsburgh, he’d received interest from several teams before settling on the Steelers. The North Carolina native visited the Chiefs and Dolphins earlier this week. Even after Ingram’s signing, many big-name pass rushers remain available–including Justin Houston, Olivier Vernon, Bruce Irvin and Everson Griffen.
Ingram figures to benefit from the attention drawn by T.J. Watt, who’s been in the mix for Defensive Player of the Year now for a couple of seasons. Ingram’s chapter in Pittsburgh kicks off on September 12th in Buffalo.
