Prior to acquiring a player via trade on Friday, the Steelers‘ 53-man roster was finalized. But with the new addition, the organization had to waive a player to get back down to the 53-man limit.
The Steelers waived defensive lineman Henry Mondeaux on Friday. Mondeaux played in 11 games and totaled five tackles for Pittsburgh last year. Prior to his stop with the Steelers, he was with the New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs. He’ll now head to the free-agent market.
Witherspoon, meanwhile, is on his way from Seattle to Pittsburgh. He should prove to be an important rotational player in the Steelers’ secondary this upcoming season.
The Steelers begin the 2021 season on Sunday, Sept. 12 against the Buffalo Bills.
We have acquired CB Ahkello Witherspoon from the Seattle Seahawks for our 2023 fifth-round pick, pending a physical.

It’s shaping up to be a must-watch season in Pittsburgh. The Steelers have the talent to make a run to the postseason, but it’ll ultimately depend on the play of Ben Roethlisberger.
Big Ben has not been the same quarterback he once was these past few years. He’s dealt with a number of health issues and has looked a step slower than opposing defenses.
So how did the veteran quarterback respond this offseason? He lost some weight and prioritized getting back to 100 percent. Word on the street is that we could get a whole new version of Big Ben this upcoming season.
If Roethlisberger plays up to the level we’ve once saw, the Steelers will be in good shape.
