The Pittsburgh Steelers made a savvy move this Friday afternoon, re-signing safety Terrell Edmunds to a one-year deal.
Edmunds, a former first-round pick out of Virginia Tech, had his fifth-year option declined before the start of the 2021 season. However, he didn’t allow that decision to negatively impact his mindset last season.
In 17 games, Edmunds had 89 combined tackles, eight tackles for loss, six passes defended, two interceptions and one sack.
This won’t be considered a blockbuster move for the Steelers, but it’s very apparent that the media and fan base in Pittsburgh approve of this signing.
“Good news for Pittsburgh,” Nick Farabaugh of Pittsburgh Sports Now said. “Edmunds is perfectly serviceable and has consistently improved. You have a SS with 60 games of starting experience and keep continuity in that unit. Steelers waited out the market and still make sure that is not a glaring hole at SS.”

“Boom. Been waiting all off-season for this one,” one fan tweeted. “He was a stud in 2021 and it doesn’t force a day 2 pick into a starting role immediately.

“This is not only big because Edmunds has become a quality starter, but now the Steelers can really go any direction early in the draft,” another fan wrote. “I think safety is still a need with it being a 1 year deal, but maybe the 3rd round is where they start considering one now.”

The Steelers could very well select a safety in next week’s draft, but that need isn’t as glaring as it once was.
Pittsburgh currently owns the 20th overall pick in this year’s draft.
